FBI Agent Mark Safarik

Mark E. Safarik is a Supervisory Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Behavioral Analysis Unit at the FBI Academy. He specializes in the behavioral analysis of violent crime with an emphasis on sexual assault and sexual homicide. In addition to case work and teaching both internationally and within the U.S., he has conducted extensive research on sexual assault and homicide of elder women and is recognized as a national expert in this field. In 2002, he was the recipient of the Prestigious Jefferson Award from the University of Virginia for excellence in research. He holds a B.S. from the University of California and a M.S. from Boston University. He has authored works that include publications appearing in international peer-reviewed journals and books to include Homicide Studies, The Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Juvenile Sexual Homicide, and Offender Profiling. He has been an FBI agent over 22 years. Prior to joining the FBI, he was a California police detective. His law enforcement career spans 29 years.
